Philadelphia was our first stop after NYC. We spent one day walking around the city, seeing the Liberty Bell, visiting Independence Hall - where both the United States' Declaration of Independence and the United States' Constitution were debated and adopted. There is so much history and so many beautiful historic buildings at every turn. The following day we headed to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They had a great exhibition - Paint the Revolution: Mexican Modernism, 1910–1950, well worth a visit and of course, you can't visit without running up and down the Rocky Steps.
From Philadelphia we headed into Lancaster County - Dutch Country and scene of much fighting during the war of Independence. Then on to Gettysburg, where one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War took place and where, a year later in 1863, Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg address.
