We left Mosier, Oregon and started the drive to Bellingham, to catch the ferry to Alaska. This gave us the opportunity to explore a little of Washington itself including Mount Rainier National Park. Despite low cloud, our first inclement weather since New Orleans at the end of April, the place was beautiful. A few walks and hikes and then on to Seattle.

A small compact friendly city. We toured downtown, Pike Place Market and the sculpture park before heading to the Space Needle, built for the 1962 World's Fair. A trip out to Hiram M Chittenden fish ladder was also really interesting.

We camped over-night in Bellingham and did some last minute shopping before jumping on the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry. Next stop Ketchikan.
