Having packed the van, we headed up the Atlantic Coast of Florida, stopping first in Jupiter for a few day's kiting. Beautiful sandy beaches, with turquoise sea and perfect winds.
A short stop-over at St Augustine and our first taste of camping in the State Parks. Great location, Anastasia Island was beautiful and we managed to get out on the bikes for the first time to explore the town.
On to Jacksonville to catch up with friends and former colleagues. Great to see everybody and managed to spend lots of time with Debra, including celebrating her birthday. Got some kiting in and visited Atlantic and Jacksonville Beach, including a quick trip down memory lane to peep at our old house.
Made a brief foray into Georgia, camping in Jekyll Island, very pretty and more cycling, then dropped down south again for a few days in and around O'Leno State Park, kayaking at Crystal River, in search of manatees.
We then moved onto Tallahassee to see the Florida State Capitol, camping by beautiful Lake Talquin.
Next stop Pensacola, we followed the Gulf Coast, passing through the Apalachicola National Forest, through Apalachicola town itself and on to Seaside - where they shot movie, The Truman Show. We camped in Fort Pickens, close to Pensacola and were lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday, so having headed over to the Naval Museum, we also managed to watch the Blue Angels practising.
Next stop New Orleans....
