On 1st Oct, 2015, we headed off on a journey, hoping to travel around the world.

We have sailed across the Atlantic and up through the Caribbean, toured North, Central and South America  in our VW van and are now enjoying our trip through New Zealand.

We left Rio de Janeiro, heading south.  We had a long drive ahead of us, 4,000 kilometres, on a mixed bag of roads.  Our final destination the container port in San Antonio, Chile.

En route we needed to find a new windscreen for the van.  The screen had...

From Uruguay, we crossed back into Argentina just north of Salto at the hydro-electric dam on the Rio Uruguay.  We were now heading to the north east of Argentina towards the Esteros de Ibera, the Jesuit missions and Iguazú.  On the route north, the road surface for lo...

From the vineyards of Mendoza, we started the long drive back east, destination Buenos Aires.

Along the way, we took a few days to explore Rosario, a port city on the río Paraná.  Rosario is where Kitefest friends, Tortuga (Lisandro) and Topo (Federico) live, work and p...

It was a bumpy ride to the Chile border post, where it took some time to find any officials - well...

From Park National Patagonia, we crossed back into Argentina via Paso Roballos, a rather remote border but passing through beautiful, hilly, countryside.

Our primary stop after the border was La Cueva de las Manos.  These are caves in a striking canyon, where nomadic hu...

We crossed the border back into Argentina on 22nd November.  The winding drive took us from the Chilean Lake District to its Argentinian equivalent via Cardenal Samoré border post, where we were relieved of our fresh food supplies by a customs officer.  We had picked u...

On 31 October we crossed from Chile to Argentina at Paso Sico.  The smooth Chilean road behind us and the bone-rattling wash-board ahead.  This was the RN51 heading to Salta.  The only respite on this long ,dusty  wash-board section were two brief stops to chat with cy...
